Hello! My name is Sophia Apgar and I am the owner of Insight Speech and Swallowing Therapy. I am a Western New York native who has happily found herself in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. My undergraduate background is in Psychology and Communication Sciences and Disorders. I completed my degrees at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and continued my education at Montclair State University, receiving my master's in speech-language pathology.
Since completing my master's degree, I have earned my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC's) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) working in various settings from middle and high school, skilled nursing/long-term care, acute rehab, and acute care. Establishing an outpatient practice seemed like a natural next step. As I watched patient progress to the next level of care, I found few outpatient options to refer patient to in order to continue improving speech and swallowing function.
I am experienced working with adults with neurological impairments including aphasia, stroke, and TBI. I am also passionate about cognitive/memory changes and dementia. Changes in memory is scary for both the individual and their family members.. My aim is to provide assessment and support to maintain independence/safety and to improve meaningful communication.
In my personal life, you can find me completing home projects, walking the neighborhood/parks with my family and dog, or guessing answers on Jeopardy.
