Kelli Humphrey, M.A. CF-SLP

Kelli joins Insight Speech and Swallowing Therapy following her graduate externship in acute care. Kelli possesses a strong foundation in memory (Dementia/TBI), swallowing disorders/dysphagia, and stroke (Aphasia/Dysarthria). She approaches her work with adults and teens facing communication, speech, cognitive, and swallowing challenges with a unique blend of evidence-based skills, warmth, and enthusiasm. Whether assisting a client in regaining language after a stroke or helping someone with a brain injury return to independence, Kelli brings thoughtfulness, dedication, and a genuine desire to foster thriving outcomes to every session.

A Strong Educational Foundation in Communication and Swallowing

Kelli earned her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Delaware, a program recognized for fostering a diverse and respectful learning community that emphasizes lifelong learning. Through this program, she gained a strong foundation in speech-language pathology. Her studies included comprehensive coursework in adult neurogenic communication disorders, cognition, voice, and dysphagia.

Her training included a capstone project in use of external memory aids for individuals with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. She also completed a variety of clinical placements, preparing her to work across the lifespan and across settings. From inpatient care to school-based therapy, Kelli gained hands-on experience working with a variety of patient populations, learning to adapt her approach to meet the individual goals and lifestyles of each client.

Kelli says she chose a career in speech language pathology because she is “passionate about working with individuals in key areas of their lives including communication and swallowing.” Kelli is grateful that this profession allows her to provide functional, person-centered care that focuses on maximizing participation in daily activities and quality of life for my patients.

Special Interests:

Memory (Dementia/TBI), Dysphagia, and Stroke (Aphasia/Dysarthria)

While Kelli is skilled in working with diverse populations, she has a special interest in supporting individuals with neurologic disorders, including Parkinson’s disease and stroke. Her clinical interests also include cognitive-communication disorders, including mild cognitive impairment, dementia, or traumatic brain injuries—areas where the power of therapy to change lives is especially visible.

Kelli’s clinical training and personal passion align beautifully with Insight’s focus on adult neurogenic and cognitive communication disorders as well as swallowing disorders. Whether helping someone improve memory and organization after a brain injury or returning clients to eating foods they enjoy, Kelli is known for blending clinical excellence with patient-centered care.

”I love getting to know my patients and their families. Whether it be working on safe swallowing strategies to participate in family dinners or helping someone improve their speech to communicate with their loved ones, each patient has their own story that deserves to be prioritized. I am appreciative to have the opportunity to be a part of their journey, and assist them in reaching whatever goals are important to them.”

Why Insight Speech and Swallowing Therapy?

Insight Speech and Swallowing Therapy, based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, attracted Kelli due to our person-centered approaches and strong values in functional therapy. The clinic specializes in working with adult and geriatric clients who experience complex communication and swallowing difficulties, particularly those stemming from neurologic conditions like Parkinson's disease, aphasia, and brain injury.

I have always noticed there is a need for outpatient adult speech therapy services. When I discovered Sophia’s practice, I immediately knew it would be a great fit. Her passion for this field as well as her desire and interest to provide community based events stood out to me. All the therapists at Insight provided a welcoming and safe environment that made me feel at home. I am ecstatic to begin my journey as a member of this team!”

As a Clinical Fellow, Kelli is supported by experienced mentors and team members, allowing her to grow as a clinician while contributing her own knowledge and skills.

Interests Outside of the Clinic

When she’s not in sessions, Kelli enjoys going to the beach with her friends and family, spending time outdoors, going on walks and runs, going to the movies, and board game nights.

This November, Kelli was selected to present her graduate capstone project at the American Speech and Hearing Association convention held in Washington D.C. Kelli’s project focuses on treatments using external memory aids for individuals with mild cognitive impairment and dementia. This project stemmed from a passion Kelli has to assist patients dealing with memory impairments in maximizing their safety, involvement, and independence in daily life.

Kelli’s curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning make her an exciting addition to Insight’s growing team. As our practice continues to expand to meet the needs of clients in South Jersey and beyond, we are proud to have clinicians like Kelli who are skilled, passionate, and driven by a desire to make a difference.
